Technology Policy
Our summer camp technology policy states that no devices such as phones/tablets/iPads/or smart devices are allowed while at Silver Lake Bible Camp.  This ensures the safety and security of students while also promoting an environment where students can be free from distractions and “in the moment.”

Staff will pick up and secure any phones or devices seen at camp.  We will return these to the parents when we arrive back at The Garden Church on July 21.

Cabin leaders and youth pastors will have their phones and, in an emergency, students will be allowed to call home. Parents may also text or call Pastor Stephen in an emergency.

TECHNOLOGY, SAFETY & DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES

The Garden Summer Camp desires that every camper has a successful and safe Christian camp experience. We are committed to building a safe and welcoming environment for all campers where everyone treats one another with respect and dignity. To ensure the safety and security of students, while promoting open lines of communication with parents, The Garden is providing the following guidelines. We want our students to have a fabulous camp experience and be able to get to know God in a fun environment without distractions.

Technology
Our summer camp policy states that no devices such as phones/tablets/iPads/smart devices are allowed at camp.

Camp staff will pick up and secure any phones or devices we see at camp. We will return these to the parents after camp when we arrive back to Renton Campus.

Emergencies
Cabin leaders will have their phones and, in an emergency, students can always use their phones to call home. Upon request, parents can ask for their student’s cabin leader’s phone number. Campus Youth Pastors will also have their phones for students to use. Parents may also call or text the Youth Church Camp Coordinator, Judy Parkins at 253.222.0890 with questions.

Safety
Campers are expected to use appropriate language (no profanity, sexual topics, racist topics) and, in general, avoid language or behavior that diminishes others. They are expected to cooperate with the staff and follow directions, respect other campers and staff, equipment, facilities, and themselves. They should maintain a positive attitude and stay with their groups. If a child or youth has problems with any of these objectives, counselors will work with them to overcome it. Should we continue to have challenges in these areas during the time the camper is attending camp, we will contact the parents or guardians to enlist their assistance.

If the camper’s behavior does not immediately improve, the camper may be sent home before the end of their session. Behaviors that may result in immediate dismissal from camp include any of the following behaviors:
1. Threaten or pose a direct threat to the physical/emotional safety of campers and staff.
2. Verbal abuse towards another student or staff member, abusive jokes, slurs, threats, name
calling, bullying or intimidation (ex: racist or derogatory statements)
3. Fighting, possession of a weapon of any kind
4. Vandalism or destruction of camp property or someone else's property
5. Sexual misconduct
6. Possession or use of alcohol or other controlled substance
7. Violation of the camps rules: Silver Lake Bible Camp (Sr.) and Lake Retreat Bible Camp (Jr.)

Discipline
Any of these behaviors or situations will be promptly and thoroughly investigated by our staff. Each of these behavior violations are handled on a case-by-case basis with camp counselors and youth pastors working together towards the appropriate behavior interventions. Parents will be notified depending on the seriousness of the behavior violation and we will use the following progressive discipline process:
1. Discussion and verbal warning 2. Loss of privilege
3. Phone call home
4. Parent pick-up
